we’re all human…

As we close off the year, we reflect. And as we reflect, our human nature seeks acknowledgement that we’re moving forward; we want to progress.

But that does not suffice to satisfy the itch of our homosapien tendencies. We want to know that we’re successful as well.

That’s not at question here.

The real question is this: how do we measure success?

How, at the end of a year – or, at the end of a season, a decade, or a lifetime – do we scratch the itch of our constant urge to know that we’ve designed something, built something or invested into something that’s working?

After a year of hard yards, long journeys and short sprints, has it been worth it? Has the seasons of sustained energy and essential endurance “paid off”?

But what does “paid off” even mean?

“The end of the melody is not its goal. But nonetheless, had the melody not reached its end, it would not have reached its goal either.”

– Friedrich Nietzsche

Thanks to all our colleagues, clients, readers, confidants, acquaintances. Around the world and in our own hometowns. We’ve set and achieved goals with our clients; we’ve deciphered diagnosing strategy execution maturity; we’ve developed leadership learning programs; we’ve partnered with NGOs, with industry-shapers, with disruptors, with incumbents and with entrepreneurs. And we’ve loved it.

Happy holidays,

Paul
